Amazon.co.uk Review Freely adapted from Robert Ludlum's 1980 bestseller, The Bourne Identity starts fast and never slows down. The twisting plot revs up in Zurich, where amnesiac CIA assassin Jason Bourne (Matt Damon), with no memory of his name, profession, or recent activities, recruits a penniless German traveler (Run Lola Run's Franka Potente) to assist in solving the puzzle of his missing identity. While his CIA superior (Chris Cooper) dispatches assassins to kill Bourne and thus cover up his failed mission, Bourne exercises his lethal training to leave a trail of bodies from Switzerland to Paris. Director Doug Liman (Go) infuses Ludlum's intricate plotting with a maverick's eye for character detail, matching breathtaking action with the humorous, thrill-seeking chemistry of Damon and Potente. Previously made as a 1988 TV movie starring Richard Chamberlain, The Bourne Identity benefits from the sharp talent of rising stars, offering intelligent, crowd-pleasing excitement from start to finish. --Jeff Shannon On the DVD: Created to take advantage of the sequel playing in cinemas at the same time as this release, the "Explosive Extended" edition of The Bourne Identity is neither. Unlike many special editions, this is a still a single disc and several of the original DVD features--like the DTS and commentary tracks--are jettisoned for more extras, most of which are lightweight 3- to 6-minute featurettes. The new beginning and ending is incorrectly advertised as an extended edition--the feature is the same as the theatrical, and the new footage is seen à la carte, with explanations. These "bookend scenes" were shot after 9/11, an insurance policy for the filmmakers who were unsure how a spy film would play. Fortunately, the scenes were dropped and the results here are more a curio than anything else. The new featurettes are ordinary filler, pumped up with film clips and hooks for the sequel. A nice exception is a sound-mix segment and an all-too-quick recollection of author Robert Ludlum. Funny that "explosive" would be word chosen to represent a film that was quite proud of going out of its way not to be just a dumb, explosion-filled action film. --Doug Thomas

bourne identity June 19, 2010 Luke Thrower The bourne identity is the first film in a series of stories about jason bourne (matt damon). The film is rated 12 and runs for nearly 2 hours.
===Story===
The story of jason bourne is very exciting , the film starts off with jason being picked up by a italian fishing ship with two bullets in his back and a mysterious back number. The first film follows the story of him following the clues to discover who he is and why he remembers how to fight and how to survive. The story is very exciting and is packed full of action, be it fights , car chases or suspense, this film always has something going on and does not leave you bored.
===Acting===
The acting in the film is done very well and matt damon does a good job of playing jason bourne, before this i had not seen him as an actor so the unknown aspect really fitted with me and he did seem anonymous.
The other actors are also played very well and leave an air of secrecy about their work which really helps to raise the suspence of the film.
===Filming===
The movie is packed full of action and the camera reflects this , there is a lot of movement and although this can add to the excitement and make you feel more involved , it can also be quite annoying at times. It is how ever very bearable as all the other aspects make up for it.
===Sound===
The film is very clear and its easy to hear the actors even when the music is loud. The musical score reflects the movie quite well and helps to reinforce the atmosphere the director wants.
===Extras===
The dvd extras feature a commentry, alternate ending, deleted and extended scenes, behind the scenes and trailers.
===Overall===
Overall this is a very good film and is worth a watch
Purchased for my husband in fact the whole Bourne series January 4, 2010 Mrs. E. M. Cullis (England) My husband has always said he wanted to keep the whole series of Bourne collection so I purchased it for Christmas. He loves this particular film as it opens up all the intrique for the next films. Excellent.
Sparkling, Brilliant Bourne June 7, 2009 luvstuff I ignored the release of the Bourne movies and didn't take much notice of them when they were first released on DVD. However, I noticed the Bourne films at a bargain price in a supermarket so I couldn't resist buying them. I have to say I am very glad that I purchased the The Bourne Identity not to mention the other two films. To put it briefly as other reviewers have stated (well most) this film is incredible!
I don't usually watch spy based thrillers but this film is in class of its own to use the cliche. This is nothing like any of the Bond movies which are cheesy and contrived. It's impossible to watch this film without comparing it to the Bond films only because the Bourne Identity is so radically different from those films.
As soon as the film starts it draws you in and doesn't let up for a second. There isn't a dull moment and the whole film remains very tense until the very last moment. The plot is constructed in a way that makes you feel as though you are Bourne. His disorientation and confusion feels like your own as you try to make sense of the events presented to you. This is particularly good as it prevents the film from being predictable. Each scene is well crafted and the production is very slick. What makes the plot really different is that instead of a search for a villain as in most spy thrillers this film focuses on a search for self and truth. Bourne is in fact hunting for his elusive self and the truth that lies dormant in him. The CIA are portrayed as ruthless, cold and as existing everywhere. The film feeds well into popular conspiracy theories that the CIA are always watching, listening and are lurking in every shadow.
Full credit has to be given to Matt Damon who really carries the film. He really shows off his full range of acting skills, with the obvious action scenes and a romantic scene or two. His portayal of Bourne is very sensistive and there is no Bond style hubris.
All of the actions scenes are fantastic. The set pieces are elaborate and inventive. All the scenes are gritty and tough. The romantic scenes are very tender and are actually very sensual. There are no sleazy Bond moments in this film.
All the dialogue is thoughtful but sparse.
The soundtrack is ace, very trendy.
Everyone needs to see this film, it's really that good. Do not miss.
Awesome bourne April 16, 2009 Vishal (London) The 1st part of the trilogy is unmissable, very original approach, love it to death !
